If you had to give a definition of what it means to finish life well, what would you say?
When you read the Bible there isn’t one clear passage that gives us a complete
picture of what it means to finish life well. However, much is said on the subject.
The closest verse we have to a divine definition was spoken by Jesus to a lawyer who asked Him about the greatest commandment.
Jesus said, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The
second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two
commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” (Matt. 22:37-40 NASB)
Two ultimate commands are given: Love God and love your neighbor. That sums up
everything. Yet, to arrive at a clear definition of finishing life well, I think we need further insight into these two areas.
I’d like to give that more thought and will share what comes to my mind in the next blog.
